We all have the same pain, the same hope.
the same worry, the same sadness
and we all feel anger sometimes
We can all be free, free of anger,
free of sadness, and free of...
Violence!
Violence is Cancer, can't you see?
You've got to cut it out, cut it out, cut it out
So we can all be free
All around the planet, reaching to the stars
and the moon and the sun, 'til we can be as one
Try to have peace and love, all we need is peace and love
no more war, no more cruelty, just love...
When I hear about people who are cruel to each other
it makes me want to go to my room.
It's just like treating the other person like trash
and it makes people cry
Please stop the violence, please stop the violence,
please stop the violence, Violence!
We just need to be cool, calm and collective
We just need to stop. Stop the violence
Like, any kind of violence, like guns and fire and nuclear bombs
and stop using violence against women, violence against children
violence against senior citizens
Yeah, slavery is violence and evil thoughts…

Janet is an aspiring pacifist. Aspiring, in that, like all of us, she can lose her cool from time to time. So, this song is as much a reminder to herself as it is a mournful assessment of human proclivity to violence. Janet weeps at the presence of violence, as she pleads against an angular and angry sonic background.
